What is a Grocery Robot?

Cleveron 501 is a unique robotics-based click and collect solution designed to offer outdoor grocery pickup in various locations.

The grocery robot can store FMCG, such as vegetables or milk as well as frozen goods like ice cream. Thanks to the size, minimal site requirements and easy installation of Cleveron 501, it can be placed in easy-to-access locations for consumers, e.g. business districts or even traffic junctions. This enables the grocery supplier to take their shop closer to their consumers and offer a fast and convenient pickup option.

Online grocery shopping is a rapidly growing market and grocers are facing the need to upgrade their omnichannel strategies to keep up with demand. 80% of shoppers said they’re more likely to buy repeatedly from retailers that offer a range of convenient, flexible delivery options.

Cleveron 501 is a new delivery alternative, making online grocery shopping cheaper, faster and more convenient for both grocers and consumers.

Two temperature zones

Cleveron 501 is available with different temperature zones to accommodate all types of goods, from ice cream to bananas.

The refrigerated zone

The refrigerated zone's internal temperature can be set between +2 °C...+25 °C (+36 °F...+77 °F). Each client can choose the exact temperature depending on their specific needs.

The freezer zone

The low-temperature zone has a controlled temperature of -18 °C (0 °F). It enables to store frozen goods and FMCG in the same grocery robot.

How does it work?

The client orders groceries online and chooses the grocery robot as their preferred delivery method.

The courier arrives at Cleveron 501 and starts the fulfilment process.

  1. The unit operator/courier identifies himself at the user console
  2. The unit operator scans the barcode on the crate with groceries
  3. Cleveron 501 sends out an empty crate
  4. The unit operator replaces the empty crate with the scanned crate containing groceries
  5. The customer receives a message and a pickup code on their phone notifying that their order is ready
  6. The customer arrives at the grocery robot and scans their pickup code at the user console
  7. Cleveron 501 brings out the grocery order
  8. The customer collects their bags from the crate, closes the door and leaves

Benefits of Cleveron 501

Saves money

Cleveron 501 maximizes the use of expensive retail space by storing the most parcels per square meter. It is a cost-effective way to offer grocery pickup or curbside pickup in areas where retail space is limited or expensive. Cleveron 501 is also a lower-cost alternative to home deliveries, where each grocery order is delivered individually. The parcel robot is a self-service unit, which means that the end-user doesn’t need any assistance from an employee to receive their groceries.

Saves time

Busier lifestyles and the rise of e-commerce have increased the popularity of home deliveries. While it is convenient to have goods delivered straight to your doorstep, it is very inconvenient to wait at home for the courier to arrive. For retailers, busy lifestyles cause failed delivery attempts, which cost them time and money.

Cleveron 501 is fast – the loading and retrieval process only takes seconds. Customers can pick up their goods at any time and companies spend less time on deliveries.

The grocery robot has minimal site requirements and is very easy to install so you could start automating online grocery deliveries as soon as possible.

Offers convenience

Cleveron 501 is based on the same user process model as Cleveron’s other robotics-based solutions, offering a seamless user experience for both the store associate/courier and the end-user. All actions take place at one user console – the courier can load the grocery orders into the machine through the console and the end-user will receive the order from the same console.

The user interface is the same as on other Cleveron products, which guarantees that it is as intuitive as possible. The courier and the end-user only need to scan their ID or the order pickup code to insert or receive the order.

Brings you closer to your customers

Thanks to its compact size, the fact that it is easy to transport and install, the Cleveron 501 can be placed anywhere with electricity, a network connection, and a solid surface. In addition to being located next to the supermarket, the parcel robot can also be installed near main roads, in suburban areas, on parking lots in business districts, in narrow city centers, university campuses, industrial parks, etc. This brings curbside delivery closer to your customers, offering them more convenience and flexibility.

Customizable design

The external design of the Cleveron 501 can be modified according to the client’s needs. The walls and ad spaces inside the robot can be branded according to the corporate visual identity demands; they can be used as additional advertisement spaces or designed to match the surrounding environment.

Safety with curbside pickup

In light of the current events, the need for a safe alternative for companies to sustain their business operations and for customers to receive their orders has emerged. Cleveron 501 caters to this need as there is no contact between customers and store associates or couriers, making curbside pickups safer.

Since Cleveron 501 can be installed at any location, including parkways, and busy streets, it allows customers to simply drive to the nearest self-service automated pickup point and pick up their orders by the curbside and drive off. Considering that the pandemic is expected to permanently alter consumer behavior, grocery curbside pickup has and will continue to gain popularity in the near future.

Robotic grocery lockers offer a competitive advantage

Cleveron’s robotic grocery lockers are the present and future, especially offering no contact grocery storage through temperature-controlled lockers with the potential to be placed anywhere in the world, making curbside pickups a reality in both rural and urban areas.

Cleveron’s grocery lockers help businesses solve the “last mile” issue.

Last-mile grocery delivery is solved for by refrigerated lockers that can be placed in the areas where consumers live. Our pickup lockers for food products make grocery shopping more convenient and reduce last-mile delivery costs. Our grocery robot also provides an opportunity to gain a competitive edge by reducing the distance between you and your customer.

Outdoor parcel lockers offering refrigerated storage enables you to lower your labor, real estate and last-mile costs, while meeting the click-to-hand demands of your customers.

There is a growing need in the grocery industry to meet the online delivery demands of your customer and our robots help you do just that.

The number of hours people spend in stores shopping, especially due to recent events, has significantly decreased and is expected to continue the downward trend. This change in consumer behavior is shifting the way grocery retailers offer their products and what services they extend to gain a competitive advantage.

How does it differ from a chilled locker?

Smaller footprint

Robotic solutions are more space-efficient than locker systems. The parcel robots can store more parcels per square meter than traditional parcel lockers; they can store packages much higher because goods are delivered through a single user console.

Smaller service area

Robotics-based solutions have one user console, from which all parcels are inserted and withdrawn. Chilled lockers, on the other hand, have a user console and individual doors. The end-user must insert their pickup code, after which a door can open in the furthest corner of the machine. With Cleveron 501, all grocery bags go in and out from the same user console, offering a convenient user experience.

Cleveron 501 with 120 crates requires 20 m2 (215 ft²) of space, service area included. A grocery locker with 120 doors would need double the amount of space –  40 m2 (430 ft²).

To load a chilled locker with 120 doors, the courier would have to walk 2 km back and forth from the user console. With Cleveron 501, all orders go through a single user console.

More ergonomic

Cleveron’s product development begins with product design and it plays a major role in the entire development process. Our solutions have been made with comfort and ergonomics in mind. With Cleveron 501, couriers don’t have to put heavy grocery bags on hard-to-reach shelves and customers can also pick up their goods with ease. The parcel robot is ADA compliant, which means customers with disabilities are also able to use the machine.
